Birthday of Maharaja Hari Singh – The Kashmir News
JAMMU // The Jammu and Kashmir government has decided to declare a public holiday on September 23, the birth anniversary of Maharaja Hari Singh. A notification in this regard will be issued soon. This announcement was made by Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha in a meeting with a delegation comprising of leading political leaders, Yuva Rajput Sabha members, civil society members including the head of Jammu and Kashmir Transport Union at Raj Bhavan. Later, the Lieutenant Governor said on this occasion, “The government has decided to declare the birthday of Maharaja Hari Singh as a public holiday.” Maharaja Hari Singh was a great educationist, progressive thinker, social reformer and a man of lofty ideals. A public holiday would be appropriate to pay tribute to the glorious legacy of Maharaja Hari Singh Ji. Notably, earlier this year the administration on the instructions of the Lt. Governor had declared a holiday on the birth anniversary of Maharaja Hari Singh. A four-member committee was constituted to examine the public demand regarding the issue. Leading political leaders including Member of Parliament Shi Jogul Kishore Sharma; Former DCM, Dr Nirmal Singh; S Devendra Rana, S Sat Sharma; Shri Ajit Singh, President All J&K Transport Union; President of Yuva Rajput Sabha Mr. Rajan Singh and members of Yuva Rajput Sabha were present on this occasion.
