- Ravichandran Ashwin will dominate the T20 World Cup
Former New Zealand spinner Daniel Vettori feels R Ashwin’s ability to adapt quickly to conditions and his immense knowledge of Australian conditions will help him during the T20 World Cup.
Spin bowlers are not that effective when it comes to Australia’s fast and bouncy pitches and India have the likes of Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal and Axar Patel for the ICC tournament to be held in October-November.
Former New Zealand captain Vettori is here to play in the second leg of Legends League cricket. “We all know that Ashwin has been brilliant in Tests. The best part is that he is coming with a great performance in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and has been included in the T20 squad for India.
“He is one of those players who adapt very quickly, he understands what he needs to do in all situations. I think if he is selected he knows how to perform. He has been to Australia several times.
Vettori said that if Ravindra Jadeja is injured, Ashwin could be named as the spin bowling all-rounder in the upcoming T20 World Cup. He said, “India has no shortage of spin bowlers. The good thing is that most of the spinners are also ‘all-rounders’, which gives good balance to the team.
The former left-arm great said the key thing for a spinner to be successful in Australia would be to bowl more ‘topspin’ and get bounce the same way Nathan Lyon does for the home team.
“It would be best to see the way Lyon bowls on the Australian wicket. He is so successful because of his ‘seam release’.
