We spoke to dietician, Jyoti Mineraloh to know about dates. There is Clinical Nutrition and Food and Beverage in Jyoti Max Hospital, Patparganj, New Delhi. She explains, “Dates contain many nutrients. It’s high in dietary fiber and flavonoids, disease-fighting antioxidants like carotenoids and phenolic acids, and moderate in vitamin B6, rich in minerals like magnesium and potassium.”

1. Removes Folic Acid Deficiency

Folic acid deficiency is often seen during pregnancy. In such a situation, pregnant women are advised to eat dates during pregnancy. It also contains a good amount of amino acids, carbohydrates and calcium which aids in bone development.

Apart from this, it is also rich in vitamin B16 i.e. folic acid, which helps in reducing the rate of birth defects. It increases the level of hemoglobin in women and increases the immunity of both mother and child.

2. Gives strength to bones

Dates are rich in copper, selenium and magnesium which help keep your bones healthy and prevent bone diseases. As such people who suffer from osteoporosis are more likely to suffer from bone fractures. Dates can make your bones strong. Also, it is beneficial for people who have problems with bone pain.

5. Beneficial in irregular periods

Consumption of dates is very beneficial for women who have irregular periods. By eating it, blood circulation increases and it removes impurities from the blood.

Dates are an effective remedy for problems related to period and anemia. It increases hemoglobin in the body and helps in balancing irregular periods.

How can we consume dates?

1. Dates are available in both dry and fresh form. You can consume them directly.
2. It can be eaten in place of jaggery or used in sweets.
3. Dates also make a good natural sweetener due to their glucose, sucrose and fructose content.
4. You can consume it daily with milk.
5. You can make smoothies at home or add them to your salads.
