“I was pretty drunk” |
Alcohol confession on “The Voice”
This performance brought back memories…
Candidate James Boyle (54) caused a déjà vu on Thursday evening in the seventh blind audition of “The Voice of Germany”. Coach Mark Forster (39) had already seen the piercer from Saarbrücken on stage, but he wasn’t quite sober at the time.
Boyle may also have looked familiar to some TV viewers, because the tattoo fan was already sitting on the guessing chair of “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?” And even starred in “Tatort”. Now he wants to start as a singer, he had his wife and daughter with him in the casting show.
Before the performance, the jack-of-all-trades revealed: “Music has been my great passion for a long time. It’s always there for me.” He performs regularly with his band. Boyle heated up the coaches with the classic “Fever” and was really well received thanks to his grating voice. Rea Garvey (49) and Mark Forster hit the buzzers and saw the talent in their team.
Mark in his hymn of praise: “I just thought it was great! You have a very unique voice.” He also liked the look of the candidate. “You look like me probably on season 37 of ‘The Voice of Germany’ or something,” the singer joked. But the two had more in common.
Forster went to school in Winnweiler, which is very close to Boyle’s hometown of Saarbrücken. The musicians even met once. James told Mark, “I used to play at your school when you were there.” When he revealed the name of his band, Forster’s penny dropped. In 1998 his school had thrown a big party where James and his boys were the main act.
Mark Forster was able to confirm: “I was at the concert!” How much he noticed from the performance at the time, however, remained open. Because the coach admitted with a grin: “I was relatively drunk.” The reunion – all the more surprising. Rea Garvey reminded Boyle of blues icon Tom Waits (72) with his voice.
As a mentor, however, James had someone else in mind and would have preferred to go to Peter Maffay (73). Only the music legend had not buzzed. In the end, Mark Forster could celebrate, for whose team the piercer finally decided.
