  • Rishabh Pant did not get a chance in the first T20 played against Australia in Mohali

  • Dinesh Karthik was given preference over Pant by the team management

  • In such a situation, Matthew Hayden has defended the poor form, calling Pant the future star of Indian cricket.

Nagpur: The Indian cricket team made a poor start against world champions Australia in the three-match home T20 series after a poor performance in the Asia Cup 2022. In the first T20 match of the series played in Mohali on Tuesday, Team India could not win even after scoring a huge score of 208 runs for 6 wickets in the first innings.

Karthik could not leave a mark in the first T20
In the first match, Rohit Sharma included Dinesh Karthik in the team instead of Rishabh Pant. Karthik could not leave his mark in this match both in batting and wicketkeeping. Karthik, who came to bat at number seven, played an innings of 6 runs in 5 balls and became LBW off Nathan Ellis. He could not impress even during wicketkeeping.

Rishabh Pant will be in my every team
After the match, the demand to keep Rishabh Pant in the playing-11 again gained momentum. In such a situation, Australia’s full opener Matthew Hayden, taking the side of Pant, said, “If I were a selector, I would have selected Pant in all my teams.” They are the future and should be supported. If he is battling with a drought of runs, then I think he should be in the team. He is a wonderful player in every way.

Pant’s performance in T20 has been lackluster
Rishabh Pant has not been able to replicate his Test cricket success in T20 Internationals. He has scored 934 runs in 51 innings of 58 matches played so far at an average of 23.94 and strike rate of 126.21, which includes three half-centuries. His best score is 65 not out.
