India’s Jemima Rodrigues fell behind Australia’s Tahlia McGrath in the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) women’s player of the month race, while Zimbabwe’s Sikandar Raza won the title in the men’s category.

In the women’s category, Rodrigues along with Commonwealth Games gold medalists Beth Mooney and Tahlia McGraw of Australia were also nominated for the award. McGraw was instrumental in making Australia gold medalists in Birmingham, which earned him the award. He also took five wickets at 13.40 and scored 114 runs at an average of 57 in the Commonwealth Games. During this, he also took three wickets, including an unbeaten 78 against Pakistan.

“I am honored to be named the ICC Women’s Player of the Year for August as there are so many great players out there who are at the top of their game,” McGrath said in a release issued by the ICC. Vale is the first male player from Zimbabwe. The 36-year-old was nominated along with legendary all-rounders like New Zealand’s Mitchell Santner and England’s Ben Stokes.

“I am honored to have won the ICC Player of the Month award. Being the first player from Zimbabwe to win this award, it is even more special.” Raza performed brilliantly against Bangladesh and India during this period. Their 135 not out and 117 not out against Bangladesh helped Zimbabwe win the three-match ODI series 2-1. After this he also played a century against India. Raza also took seven wickets with his spin bowling during this period.
