Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a meeting of mayors of BJP-led municipal corporations in Gandhinagar, Gujarat.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged the mayors of the BJP-led municipal corporations to focus on development of their cities keeping in mind the welfare of the people and give priority to creating facilities for living. Addressing a two-day gathering of BJP mayors in Gandhinagar via video conferencing, the Prime Minister asked them to engage the masses and work for the betterment of their cities. He said that the Municipal Corporations are closely associated with the daily life of the people. Therefore, it is the responsibility of the mayor to gain the trust of the citizens. Shri Modi asked the mayors to focus on planned development of their cities, setting up of economic hubs, better urban transport and housing and sanitation. The Prime Minister said that before 2014, the country had only 250 km of metro rail network, which has now increased to 775 km. He said that work is being done on more than 1000 km of metro rail network in the country. He also said that the BJP government is focusing on providing modern facilities in the cities. He asked the mayors to take their cities to such a level that their work will be remembered by future generations. Party President JP Nadda, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and BJP state unit chief CR Patil were present on the occasion.
