Samarkand Declaration issued at the end of Shanghai Cooperation Organization, next summit will be held in India in 2023
Samarkand, Sep 17 (UNI) The Samarkand Declaration was signed at the end of the 22nd meeting of the Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) held in the historic city of Samarkand, Uzbekistan. The summit was hosted by the President. Shaukat Mirzayev of Uzbekistan at the Congress Center located in the Samarkand International Tourism Zone. According to Turkish media reports, the members of SCO are Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, India, Pakistan and Uzbekistan. In the Summit Declaration on the Consequences of the Leader of the Samarkand Declaration, the leaders reaffirmed that the SCO is not hostile to other states and international organizations and that they are ready to cooperate, taking into account mutual interests. In the declaration, the leaders emphasized their efforts to enhance cooperation in the field of defence. and to list security, terrorist and extremist organizations. Declared the intention, also emphasized the importance of conducting joint military exercises for the organization of peacekeeping missions to counter terrorism. Condemning the unilateral development of the global missile defense system by several countries, the leaders said it has negative implications for international security and stability. Calling for compliance with the Convention on the Prohibition of the Development, Production, Storage and Use of Chemical Weapons and their Destruction, the leaders expressed their support for non- Stressed the need for military action in outer space and the signing of an international, legally binding instrument. The need to stop the arms race in space was also emphasized. Referring to the importance of implementing an action plan regarding Iran’s nuclear programme, the leaders stressed that nuclear non-proliferation is essential. The provisions of the agreement should be strictly enforced. The leaders stressed the need for an inclusive government in Afghanistan with the participation of representatives of all ethnic, religious and political groups. In addition, the leaders who approved the title of “SCO Goodwill Ambassador” declared 2023 as the Year of Tourism. After this summit, the presidency of the SCO will be handed over to India. Whereas the next SCO summit will be held in India in 2023. At the summit, a total of 40 documents including a comprehensive action plan for the implementation of the Agreement on Long-Term Good-Neighbourhood, Friendship and Cooperation were signed by the member states.
