- BCCI announces 15 member Indian team for T20 World Cup
- Sunil Gavaskar wants both Rishabh Pant and Dinesh Karthik to get a chance in the playing 11
New Delhi: There is now less than a month left for the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 to start. BCCI has recently announced the Indian team for the mega event. Both Rishabh Pant and Dinesh Karthik have been included in the 15-man squad. But is it really possible that they got a chance to play together in the playing 11? Many former cricketers and experts believe that either Pant or Karthik will have to sit out if the sixth bowling option is to be kept.
On the other hand, former Indian captain and great batsman Sunil Gavaskar has expressed a different opinion. According to Gavaskar, the Indian team management should include both Pant and Karthik in the playing 11 and give Pandya a chance as the fifth specialist bowler. In a conversation with Sportstak, Gavaskar said, ‘I want to see both Rishabh Pant and Dinesh Karthik playing together. Pant at number five and Hardik Pandya at number six. Then Dinesh Karthik played at number seven.
Sunil Gavaskar further said, ‘I would love to see four other bowlers playing with Hardik Pandya. How do you win if you can’t take the risk? You have to take risks in all departments, only then you will get rewards. Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul will open for India while Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav will take charge at number three and fourth. The inclusion of both Karthik and Pant in the team will leave India with five bowling options and if anyone has a bad day, India will have only four bowling options.
In the recently concluded Asia Cup, India preferred Karthik over Pant in the Group A match against Pakistan. But in the Super-4 round, Pant was again included in the team and Karthik was seated out. Both were tried together in two matches, but it was possible only because Hardik Pandya was rested.
