Chandigarh: Veteran fast bowler Umesh Yadav joined the Indian team on Sunday. Yadav was included for the three-match T20I series as a replacement for Kovid-19 positive Mohammed Shami. The first T20 International match between India and Australia will be played at the PCA Stadium in Mohali on Tuesday. The 34-year-old Vidarbha fast bowler played his last T20 International against Australia on 24 February 2019.
If Umesh Yadav gets a chance to play the match, it will be the first time in 43 months that he will represent the Indian team in a T20 International match. The inclusion of the right-arm fast bowler has not been officially announced, but according to PTI, as soon as Shami was out, Yadav was called and told to play the match. Umesh did his packing and came to join the team. Yadav reached Chandigarh airport at 7 am on Sunday and from there went straight to the hotel and joined the Indian squad.
The way Umesh Yadav was included in the team, it seems that the Indian team will take his services in the first T20 International match. Mesh Yadav has played 7 T20 Internationals for India so far and has taken 9 wickets. He made his debut on 7 August 2012 against Sri Lanka at Pallekele and played his last match against Australia in Visakhapatnam on 24 February 2019.
Even though Umesh Yadav has not played T20 Internationals for the Indian team for a long time, he has done well in white ball cricket. He was a part of Kolkata Knight Riders in this year’s IPL, where he took 16 wickets for the Shreyas Iyer-led side. His economy rate was also very impressive throughout the season, which was a little over 7.
